Boniface seeks end to five game goals drought

Victor Boniface will be looking to add to his tally this season after failing to find the net in his last five outings when Bayer Leverkusen face BK Hacken at Bravida Arena on Thursday evening in a Europa League game in Sweden, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

The Nigerian forward has bagged 11 goals in 17 games for Bayer Leverkusen so far across all competition this season but last scored in their 3-0 win over Cologne in a Bundesliga game on November 9.

The Nigerian was in explosive form at the start of the season, scoring three braces in his first five appearances.

While the 22-year-old’s rate of finding the back of the net has since slowed, it is impossible to say his start to the season has been any less than a resounding success – with six assists to add to his 11 goals from his first 17 matches – making him the most prolific contributor to the lightning start Xabi Alonso’s team have made.

Boniface has comfortably hit more shots than any other player in the Bundesliga this season (65).

The Black and Reds currently lead the Bundesliga after claiming an excellent 3-0 win over Werder Bremen at Weser Stadium following the international break.

With that result, they equalled the best start in the history of the Bundesliga, with their record of 11 wins and a draw now matching the performance of Bayern Munich back in the 2015-16 season.

Not only has it been a record-breaking season for Boniface who made it a hat-trick of Bundesliga Rookie Awards after beating Xavi Simons and Brajan Gruda in October, but for Xabi Alonso who has also become the first Leverkusen manager to win eight consecutive Bundesliga matches.
