‘Let them see this cup’: Springboks’ Webb Ellis Trophy tour kicks off at Union Buildings

  • The Springboks kick off their trophy tour at the Union Buildings in Pretoria. 
  • The Boks arrived in South Africa on Tuesday morning after making history as four-time winners of the Rugby World Cup on Saturday.
  • Thursday’s tour will conclude at FNB stadium in Soweto.

After receiving a hero’s welcome at OR Tambo International Airport on Tuesday, the Springboks kick off their national Webb Ellis Trophy tour at the Union Buildings in Pretoria, according to the Presidency. 

Their 12-11 victory against New Zealand’s All Blacks in Paris, after an intense final, has been met with jubilation and joy in South Africa.

President Cyril Ramaphosa will welcome the four-time world champions on Thursday morning before the squad departs for Johannesburg.

“The welcome ceremony to the Union Buildings for the national team signifies the start of the Rugby World Champions’ National Trophy Tour,” the Presidency said on Tuesday. 

The Boks made history on Saturday when they became the first team to win the Rugby World Cup four times.

Springboks Captain Siya Kolisi is welcomed by fans

Springboks Captain Siya Kolisi is welcomed by fans at OR Tambo International Airport on 31 October 2023 in Kempton Park.

When the squad arrived on Tuesday, captain Siya Kolisi lifted the trophy for the first time on South African soil.

He dedicated it to supporters and told police officers:

Let them see this cup. This is their cup. They are here to see the cup. I want to show them their cup.

The parade will move to Cape Town on 3 November, to Durban on 4 November and conclude in the Eastern Cape on 5 November.
