In response to circulating reports, Mahindra & Mahindra has firmly denied rumours suggesting the automaker is planning to relocate its production facility from Chakan, Pune, to Gujarat. Some media reports and social platforms had claimed the company was exploring a shift, sparking widespread speculation within the industry.
Mahindra has now issued an official statement to clear the air, categorically rejecting these reports as “wrong and misleading.” The automaker emphasized that there are no plans to move its production operations from Chakan to any other location.
“There are some news reports and rumours floating around on media channels/social media about Mahindra & Mahindra. The rumour pertains to Mahindra planning to shift its production from Chakan in Pune to Gujarat. In view of the above, Mahindra & Mahindra categorically denies any such news. It is absolutely wrong and misleading. There is no plan to shift our production from Chakan, Pune to any other place/region.” the statement read.
Chakan, located near Pune, is one of Mahindra’s key production hubs, responsible for the manufacturing of popular models, including the Thar, XUV700, and Scorpio. The automaker reaffirmed its commitment to the site, dismissing all speculation about a relocation.

Mahindra’s Chakan plant in India has the capacity to produce 3,00,000 vehicles each year, including 50,000 trucks. Covering 700 acres, it is one of the largest greenfield projects in the country.
In other developments, the manufacturer achieved record sales in September 2024, largely fueled by strong demand in the SUV segment, which saw a year-on-year growth of 24 percent. The company sold 51,062 units during the month, marking a 24 percent increase compared to the same period last year. This also represented an 18 percent rise from the 43,277 units sold in the previous month.
