Here is why Asisat Oshoala was excluded from the Super Falcons of Nigeria squad for the second time since the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Following questions about the absence of the CAF Africa Women’s Player of the Year 2023, Asisat Oshoala from the Super Falcons of Nigeria squad the reason behind her absence has been revealed by the interim head coach of the side Justin Madugu.

Star Bay FC forward Asisat Oshoala has been omitted from Nigeria’s squad for their friendly against France on Saturday, November 30, as she focuses on renewing her documentation in the United States.

Oshoala, who played a pivotal role in helping Bay FC reach the NWSL playoffs before being eliminated by the Washington Spirit, is absent for “logistical reasons,” according to interim coach Justin Madugu. “Asisat Oshoala remains an integral part of the Super Falcons and an invaluable player in our squad,” Madugu stated. “Her absence is purely due to logistical reasons and not a reflection of her talent or importance to the team. Unfortunately, her visa and work permit in the United States have expired, and she is currently in the process of renewing them. Until this is resolved, she is unable to join us for the friendly in France.”

Madugu reassured fans that Oshoala’s return is anticipated soon. “Asisat’s contribution to the team is immense, and we look forward to welcoming her back once her situation is sorted,” he added.

The squad will also be without captain Rasheedat Ajibade, who is sidelined with an injury. However, several players who missed last month’s double friendlies against Algeria have been recalled, including defender Ashleigh Plumptre.

Plumptre, who recently returned to action following a six-month recovery from right foot surgery, had missed Nigeria’s Olympic Games campaign but is now back in the fold.
