Plastic bags filled with pills were tossed into incinerators on Thursday morning as police destroyed more than a tonne of drugs with an estimated value of R90 million.

The drugs were confiscated during police operations in the Western Cape and Eastern Cape, as well as during roadblocks and tracing operations, said national police commissioner General Fannie Masemola.

Among the drugs that went up in smoke were tik, cocaine and mandrax.
