President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has pleaded with voters in the Upper East Region to vote for Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia to continue with the legacies of good governance and infrastructure development projects in the country.

The President expressed confidence in the leadership qualities of the flag bearer of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), and his ability to propel the social and economic development prospects for Ghana.

President Akufo-Addo made this known at a stakeholder engagement held in Bolgatanga of the Upper East Region on Tuesday.

The meeting formed part of the President’s regional tour to account to Ghanaians his achievements in the past seven years, as he bows out of office after the elections slated for December 7, this year.

According to him, Dr Bawumia had distinguished himself in the execution of his task as Vice President for nearly eight years, and it was only fair the electorate voted massively to renew the mandate of the NPP under the stewardship of Dr Bawumia to take the country to paradise.

“Although a lot of candidates are vying to succeed me, I want you to pay a special attention to my Vice President, Bawumia.

“I know about his honesty, his integrity, hard work, creativity and love for Ghana. So, I want you to vote for him,” the President told the stakeholders, comprising the clergy, traditional leaders, students among others, at the Ghana National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) Hall in Bolgatanga.

He continued: “As a two-term President, I can say with confidence that I know who will be able to continue my good works. We were unsuccessful in elections in two consecutive times, and continued to work for victory. And I can assure you he’s fully prepared for the presidency”.

Nana Akufo-Addo disclosed that the NPP had strengthened its strategies to secure a resounding support from the electorate to enable Dr Bawumia to secure a ‘one-touch’ victory ahead of the polls this year.

He warned Ghanaians against voting for the leader and flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, arguing that a vote for the latter was a vote that would take the country backwards in development.

He said former President Mahama was humiliated by the electorate in the 2016 elections following his despicable record, and it was unequivocal that he was bereft of ideas to rule the country.

The President accused ex-President Mahama of being anti-human resource development because he had been against the implementation of the Free Senior High School policy, which had increased enrolment immensely in the country after its successful implementation under the his government.

“He said he would not spend GH¢2 billion on Free SHS and now, he is talking about improving it when he comes back to power, and even claims he brought the policy. How can you trust someone who is consistently inconsistent,” he queried.

The President noted that the Upper East Region had been given recognition by the current government, as it had been accorded monumental health and educational infrastructure projects.

On the ‘Agenda 111’ projects for instance, he said, the region had been given eight of such projects, adding that, some of them would be completed before the end of the year.

He, therefore, called on the people of the region to reward the tremendous achievements of the NPP which impacted their lives by voting resoundingly to keep the party in power.
