Talking about the battery first, the new Nexon EV as mentioned previously gets a bigger 45 kWh battery pack (the same one used in the Curvv EV). The 45 kWh unit gets prismatic cells and has a volumetric density of 186wh/lit and 15 per cent higher energy density. Tata Motors says that the prismatic cell format is more reliable, improves the battery capacity reduces charging time by 29 per cent and brings down the timings from 56 to 40 minutes.
The new model has a claimed range of 489km on a full charge with its C75 (real-world estimate) range being 350-370km. In comparison, the older model with a 40kWh battery pack had a 465km range. Talking about the charging, the new Nexon also gets a faster charging rate of 1.2C and Tata Motors says it can be charged from 10 to 80 per cent in 40 minutes using a charger greater than 60kW. Tata Motors also claimed that it provides a range of up to 130km in just 15 minutes of this charge.
The battery comes paired with the same PMSM electric motor and the power figures are slightly changed. It also features an IP67-protected propulsion system, which is AIS038 ++ compliant and has continuous telematics scanning to monitor critical parameters. Customers can also opt for the Red Dark variant with black and red accents at an additional Rs. 20,000.
