  • Suspected Varados gang leader Leroy “Finch” Brown was shot dead in Florida on Tuesday.
  • Brown was gunned down after leaving a gym in Roodepoort.
  • In February this year, Brown’s nemesis, suspected Fast Guns gang leader Keenen Sheldon Ebrahim, was gunned down in the same area.

Suspected Varados gang leader Leroy “Finch” Brown was shot dead in Florida, west of Johannesburg, on Tuesday.

Gauteng police spokesperson, Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi, said it had been reported that “the victim” was leaving the gym when two unknown men accosted him.

“They fired several shots at the victim, and he was declared dead on the scene. The motive of the shooting is unknown at this stage and no suspects have been arrested yet,” she said.

Nevhuhulwi added that she was not at liberty to reveal any details about the victim, but sources have confirmed to News24 that it was Brown who was gunned down.

Earlier in February this year, Brown’s nemesis, suspected Fast Guns gang leader Keenen Sheldon Ebrahim, was gunned down in the same area.

Police said at the time that occupants of a silver Jetta 6 had fired shots at a white Mercedez-Benz.

The driver of the Mercedes-Benz lost control of the vehicle and hit the pavement.

In 2019, Brown and his alleged right-hand man, Christopher “Pitso” Charles, and Sophiatown-based police officer, Warrant Officer Wynand Steyn, were on trial for the murder of Reagan Jacobs at Agatha Flats in Newclare on April 2006.

It is alleged that Steyn was driving a marked police vehicle, which Brown and Charles jumped out of before they opened fire on Jacobs, killing him and injuring two men who were with him.
