The South African Air Force (SAAF) headquarters in Pretoria has been shut down due to a ventilation system failure that caused temperatures in the building soar to 39°C, according to the SA National Defence Union (Sandu).

The union filed a complaint with the Department of Labour in relation to the “intolerable conditions” in the CBD building.

In a statement, Sandu national secretary, advocate Pikkie Greeff, said the union had written to the chief of the SA National Defence Force (SANDF) about the compromised state of the ventilation and air-conditioning systems.
