Snow started falling in the north-eastern parts of the Eastern Cape on Friday.
The South African Weather Service advised residents in snow-prone areas to stay indoors and, if possible, to avoid travelling.
The affected routes include Penhoek Pass, on the N6 between Komani and Jamestown, the R58 between Barkly East and Elliot, and the R56 between Molteno and Dordrecht.

Other affected towns include Maclear, Ugie and Rhodes.
The Eastern Cape transport department said it was monitoring the movement of traffic on the affected routes.
A Level 6 warning was issued for disruptive snow in the Elundini, Emalahleni, Matatiele, Senqu and Sakhisizwe municipalities from Thursday until Saturday.
The department’s spokesperson, Makhaya Komisa, said: “We continue to call on road users, especially our motorists, to drive cautiously when approaching the affected roads.”
