Skoda Auto India has announced that it has started production of its first subcompact SUV, Kylaq, from its plant at Chakan in Pune. To improve turnaround time, the automaker also said that it has expanded its supplier base in India by 10 per cent and increased its annual production capacity by 30 per cent, reaching 2,55,000 units. Also, operational efficiency has improved, with production lines now running 40 jobs per hour (JPH). The bookings for the new Kylaq are already underway and the company also revealed that in just 10 days it has received 10,000 bookings for the new SUV.
The Kylaq is available in four variants – Classic, Signature, Signature Plus, and Prestige. The entry-level Classic trim is priced at Rs 7.89 lakh, Signature MT is priced at Rs 9.59 lakh, AT variant is priced at Rs 10.59 lakh, Signature plus MT is priced at Re 11.40 lakh, AT variant is priced at Rs 12.40 lakh and the top-of-the-line Prestige trim is priced at Rs 13.35 lakh, AT trim is priced at Rs 14.4 lakh (all prices ex-showroom). Do note that the company has stopped accepting bookings for the base-spec Classic trim as it’s sold out. The deliveries will begin in January 2025 and the SUV will be showcased to the public at the upcoming Bharat Mobility Expo.
Skoda Kylaq First Look Should Brezza, Venue segment be worried| TOI Auto
The Kylaq is based on the brand’s MQB-A0-IN platform and measures less than four metres in length. The new model will compete with already established rivals such as the Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Tata Nexon, and Maruti Suzuki Brezza. The Kylaq measures 3,995 mm in length, 1975 mm in width, 1575 mm in height and has a 2,566 mm wheelbase with a ground clearance of 189 mm. The Kylaq is offered with a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder, turbo petrol engine with 115 hp of power and 178 nm of torque. Gearbox options will include a 6-speed torque converter and a 6-speed manual gearbox. The same engine also does the duty in the Skoda Kushaq, Slavia, VW Virtus and Taigun.
In terms of features, the Kylaq comes packed. It’s offered with an 8.0-inch fully digital cluster, 10.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, connected car tech, powered both front seats, 2-spoke steering wheel, semi-leatherette seat upholstery, single-pane sunroof, ventilated seats, ambient lighting, and a six-speaker Canton sound system. Safety-wise, it gets six airbags, ABS with EBD, traction control, ISOFIX child seat mounts, three-point seatbelts for all occupants, a reverse parking camera with sensors and more.
