Skoda Kylaq fuel-efficiency revealed: More efficient than these sub-compact SUVs

Skoda Auto India recently launched the Skoda Kylaq sub-compact SUV in the Indian market. The Kylaq is available in four variants – Classic, Signature, Signature Plus, and Prestige. The entry-level Classic trim is priced at Rs 7.89 lakh, Signature MT is priced at Rs 9.59 lakh, AT variant is priced at Rs 10.59 lakh, Signature plus MT is priced at Re 11.40 lakh, AT variant is priced at Rs 12.40 lakh and the top-of-the-line Prestige trim is priced at Rs 13.35 lakh, AT trim is priced at Rs 14.4 lakh (all prices ex-showroom).

And now, the company has revealed the official fuel-efficiency figures of the new Kylaq. The sub-compact SUV has 19.68 km/l with the manual and 19.05 km/l with the torque converter automatic. The manual transmission offers slightly better fuel efficiency. When compared to rivals, the Maruti Brezza has 17.38 km/l with MT and 19.07 km/l in Auto. The Nexon has 17.44 km/l with MT and 17.01 km/l with Auto. The Venue and Sonet have 17.5 km/l and 18.8 km/l in MT respectively, and 18.31 km/l and 19.2 km/l in Auto respectively.

Talking about the engine and gearbox in the Kylaq, it’s powered by a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder, turbo petrol engine with 115 hp of power and 178 nm of torque. Gearbox options will include a 6-speed torque converter and a 6-speed manual gearbox. The same engine also does the duty in the Skoda Kushaq, Slavia, VW Virtus and Taigun.

The Kylaq is based on the brand’s MQB-A0-IN platform and measures less than four metres in length. In terms of features, the Kylaq comes packed. It’s offered with an 8.0-inch fully digital cluster, 10.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, connected car tech, powered both front seats, 2-spoke steering wheel, semi-leatherette seat upholstery, single-pane sunroof, ventilated seats, ambient lighting, and a six-speaker Canton sound system. Safety-wise, it gets six airbags, ABS with EBD, traction control, ISOFIX child seat mounts, three-point seatbelts for all occupants, a reverse parking camera with sensors and more.

5-star safety rating in BNCAP crash test

The Kylaq recently also received a 5-star crash safety rating from Bharat NCAP for both adult and child occupant protection. The compact SUV achieved a score of 30.88 out of 32 points in adult occupant protection and 45 out of 49 points in child occupant safety. The Kylaq’s crash test ratings establish it as the highest-performing ICE-powered sub-four-metre SUV in BNCAP’s testing history so far. It’s worth mentioning that, when Skoda revealed the full price list, the brand was confident of nothing less than a 5-star safety rating.
