Water activists sounded the alarm about the flourishing of invasive plant species taking over the Vaal River.
On Monday, the non-profit organisation (NPO), Save the Vaal, reported that water lettuce and hyacinth had invaded the river – from Vereeniging downstream to Parys and beyond.
The Integrated Vaal River System is an essential water source serving 19 million people in Gauteng, the Free State, the Northern Cape and the North West provinces through 14 dams, purified by Rand Water.
