Rwanda bank on home advantage to cage Eagles

Rwanda national team, Amuvabi, believe home advantage will give them an edge over Nigeria during Tuesday’s 2025 Africa Cup of Nations Group D clash at the Amahoro Stadium in Kigali, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

This is the general belief held by coaches and players of the team, which their head coach Frank Torsten Spittler buttressed after they forced Libya to a 1-1 draw in their opening match at 11 June Stadium, Tripoli, on September 4.

Lauding his team’s performance against the North Africans, Spittle admitted that the clash with the Super Eagles will be difficult, adding that they would make the most of the home advantage to upend the three-time African champions, who steamrolled Benin Republic 3-0 at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on Saturday to take charge of the group.

“We know our next game against Nigeria won’t be easy, but we hope to make the best of our home advantage. Now every point counts, and this draw with Libya brings us more confidence,” said Spittler, as cited by Rwandan outlet The New Times.

The gaffer, who must be losing sleep on how his backline can survive the ravenous Super Eagles attack spearheaded by Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman, regretted his team’s inability to convert scoring chances, which has seen them come away with just one goal in recent times.

“We always score one goal, and it brings us pressure throughout the 90 minutes. Our team is, however, taking shape, and we can get better,” said Spittler, who noted that Amavubi are on the right path.

Rwanda exhibited their road bravery in Libya by coming from behind to have a share of the spoils after Innocent Nshuti scored in the 47th minute to cancel out Sobhi Al Dawi’s 16th opener for the home team.
