Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, said he can sacrifice his life for the right thing to be done in Rivers State like Martin Luther King did for his people.

Fubara maintained that the State Local Government elections billed for Saturday must be held as scheduled, saying the State is fully prepared irrespective of police withdrawal from the poll.

Fubara stated this during a world media briefing in Government House, Port Harcourt, on Friday.

The governor threatened that any attempt by anyone, groups, or security agencies to stop the election would be resisted.

He said, “We are prepared to make sure that we resist them. We will not put Rivers State in the state of anarchy where the system of local government administration will be suspended because of the protection of one person’s interest.

“Let me also say this, the election on Saturday is sacrosanct. We must work together to make sure that, the election holds.

“We wil also make sure that the election holds and the winners of the election will be sworn in, and they will commence their activities of administering the local government area.”

The governor said he is not crying to the International community for help but urging the world to know that once in a while, people need to stand up on the side of the truth even if it will take life.

He, however, thanked the fearless Rivers people who came out in the early hours of Friday morning to support the government to tell the Nigerian police that enough is enough.

Meanwhile, The Guardian gathered that the chairman of Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) Justice Enebeli (rtd) has resigned as claimed by some reports.
