The Springboks’ coaching reshuffle could extend to the position of SA Rugby’s director of rugby.

While reports of the imminent appointment of former All Black Tony Brown and ex-Irish international Jerry Flannery as attack and defence coach, respectively, have dominated the news cycle this week, the lesser-known development is that Rassie Erasmus’ return to the saddle as head coach will now extend to the 2027 World Cup.

Erasmus’ return to the hot seat – announced in April last year – was only supposed to be until 2025, with his assistants, Mzwandile Stick, Deon Davids and Daan Human, and Head of Athletic Performance Andy Edwards having their contracts extended for four years to the next World Cup in Australia.
