KOLKATA – The Proteas’ winless record in World Cup semi-finals may remain steadfastly intact, but coach Rob Walter insists his charges couldn’t be accused of choking in falling to a three-wicket defeat at the hands of Australia here at Eden Gardens on Thursday night.

Given South Africa’s fortunes at previous showpieces, the accusation was bound to come up again, though there’s perhaps a reasonable argument to be made that the team first needed to have thrown away a favourable position.

That’s not exactly what transpired in this match.
