A report has revealed an alarming rate of cases of ill-discipline in Free State schools.

A shocking 65 650 pupil misconduct occurrences were recorded by 1 036 schools in the Free State between July and November 2023.

At least 50 725 of these were classified as level 1 offences, including 29 253 cases of pupils failing to complete homework and 12 645 failing to attend class on time.

The Free State Department of Education has categorised the misconduct from level 1 (least severe) to level 5 (most severe) in a document titled School Disciplinary Records.
