The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State, led by Aaron Chukwuemeka, has declared that the party will not run in the state’s October 5, 2024, local government elections.

He stated that the PDP will not take part since it was still awaiting the court’s final ruling in a lawsuit brought by the All Progressives Congress (APC), in which the judge had already ordered all parties to keep things as they were.

According to Chukwuemeka, the decision was taken after a stakeholders’ meeting at the PDP secretariat in Port Harcourt.

He, therefore, told all members of the party to stay away from the planned local election been put together by the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC).

“We’ve just risen from a stakeholders meeting and took the following decisions that as a law-abiding party we will not be part of the purported local government election that they have slated for the 5th of October,” he stated.

“A few months ago, there was a suit instituted by the APC, we are not part of that suit. But as a law abiding party, we heard that an order was issued by the court restraining the parties that status quo remains the same. That RSIEC should not go ahead with the election, and we will wait for the court decision.”

This is coming days after both the reinstated APC Chairman in Rivers State, Emeka Beke, and the sacked Caretaker Committee chairman, Tony Okocha, gave conflicting statements on the participation of the APC in the planned lection.
