In a strong rebuttal to allegations of disloyalty within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), members of the Jigawa State chapter have spoken out in defense of Dr. Sule Lamido, describing him as a steadfast nationalist with an unwavering commitment to the party.

This statement comes against the backdrop of a recent article accusing Dr. Lamido of being part of a “rebellion” within the PDP in 2024.

The statement, signed by Muhammad Mago on behalf of concerned Jigawa PDP members and made available to the Guardian, argues that Dr. Lamido’s political career has been one of integrity and dedication to the party’s ideals.

They further suggest that the article’s claims are “a distortion of facts” and accuse Nyesom Wike, the current Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), of instigating division within the party.

They allege that Wike, who recently accepted a ministerial position under the All Progressives Congress (APC), has consistently undermined the PDP for personal gain, even opposing his successor, Governor Similayi Fubara of Rivers State.

“Dr. Lamido has served this country and the PDP with distinction, holding key roles that contributed to national unity and party stability,” the statement read.

“Since 1999, he has held prominent positions, including Minister of Foreign Affairs and Governor of Jigawa State, always prioritising the party’s values.”

The statement also addressed allegations that Dr. Lamido influenced his son, Dr. Mustapha Lamido, to secure a gubernatorial nomination, arguing that Dr. Mustapha earned his candidacy independently through the PDP’s standard nomination process.

They compared the Lamido family’s political service to the Bush family in the United States, highlighting that Dr. Mustapha’s achievements are the result of his own merit, not his father’s influence.

The statement further contrasts Lamido’s approach to politics with what they describe as Wike’s “draconian” style, accusing the Minister of fostering discord to advance his personal ambitions.

“While Wike has a reputation for sowing division, Dr. Lamido has always prioritised the unity of the PDP and the interests of the nation,” the statement continues.

The statement concludes by underscoring Dr. Lamido’s loyalty to the PDP and his refusal to engage in political feuds with party members.

The Jigawa PDP members describe him as a “political icon” and commend his longstanding commitment to the party’s mission.
