About The Role: The Policy and Participation Assistant will be instrumental in expanding The Diana Award’s policy function, focusing on engaging decision-makers with the meaningful participation of young people. Working closely with the Policy Manager, the role involves supporting key programs related to policy and advocacy work, including collaboration with MPs and policymakers through the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Mentoring. The position sits within the Impact and Influence team, reporting to the Policy Manager.

Internship Highlights: As a paid intern, you will be part of the Jack Petchey Internship Programme, involving a residential launch conference, professional development workshops, and a celebration event. Additionally, you will receive a training bursary and mentorship from another organization, enhancing your professional development.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Policy Research and Development:
    • Develop policy agenda and key messaging.
    • Progress one strand of key policy positions with support from the Policy Manager.
    • Monitor political developments and communicate updates to the organization.
    • Assist in stakeholder testing exercises and drafting key documents.
    • Attend external networks and events on behalf of the organization.
  2. APPG on Mentoring:
    • Work closely with the Policy Manager to run the secretariat.
    • Support organization of member meetings.
    • Develop and produce a members’ newsletter.
    • Manage the secretariat’s social media accounts.
    • Assist in recruiting and onboarding new members.
  3. Youth Voice and Participation Project:
    • Support the Youth Voice and Participation Manager in implementing recommendations.
    • Contribute to the project’s research phase.

Person Specification:

  • Interest in politics and public policy, especially concerning young people.
  • Collaborative and open mindset.
  • Ability to build relationships with various stakeholders.
  • Understanding of safeguarding issues in the context of policy, advocacy, and research.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team.
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft packages.
