Delta State Commissioner for Technical Education, Rt. Hon. Joan Onyemaechi, has advised teachers not to take laws into their hands in their dealings with students.
Rt. Hon. Onyemaechi gave the advice in a zoom meeting with principals and staff of Agbor Technical College, Agbor and Utagba- Ogbe Technical College, Kwale.
She counselled teachers to be wise and diplomatic in their dealings with students so that nobody would be in danger.
The commissioner further stated that she was concerned about the welfare and safety of both the students and teachers, even as she posited that some students might have some personal challenges that nobody was aware of and that such challenges might inform their negative behaviour.
The commissioner admonished teachers to do their best in handling the children with love, stressing that every life was precious and that their interactions with the students was an investment in their future.
Hon Onyemaechi also said that over the years, she found that children yielded more to soft talk, as she encouraged the teachers to apply the carrot and stick approach, which she said had been very effective in dealing with children overtime.
In her response, the Principal of Agbor Technical College, Mrs Hadome, Rita, thanked the commissioner and appreciated her for her concern and the motherly role she had been playing, stating that she and the entire staff were encouraged to put in their best.
