Udinese goalkeeper Maduka Okoye has tendered an apology to the club over calamitous errors in their 3-2 defeat to Inter Milan in a Serie A matchday six fixture at Bluenergy Stadium—Stadio Friuli on Saturday, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
Okoye, who has been excellent for the Italian club since becoming their first-choice last season, had a bad day at the office on Saturday, with his blunders causing his team a home loss to the champions.
Davide Frattesi opened the scoring in the 16th minute, with Okoye partly to blame for his poor timing, which allowed the midfielder to put the visitors ahead.
The host managed to level matters in the 35th minute only for the Nigerian to commit another howler a few seconds before the end of the first half, allowing Lautaro Martínez to put the visitors ahead for the second time in what was probably his worst performance since wearing the Friulian shirt made another mistake just.
The game eventually ended 3-2 in favour of Simone Inzaghi’s men, and Okoye was quick to take to his Instagram page to issue a heartfelt apology to Udinese fans.
“Sorry,” wrote the goalkeeper, whose bond with the goalkeeper and the club’s fans remains intact.
The 25-year-old’s errors came just hours after his long-time girlfriend and Dutch model, Jelicia Westhoff, publicly announced the end of their four-year relationship.
Okoye will hope to make up for his errors when Udinese face Lecce in their next league game on Saturday.
