Abia Warriors chairman John Obuh is confident about more players of the club getting Super Eagles call-ups following the invitation of their midfield maestro Innocent Godwin to the senior national team ahead of African Nations Championship qualifiers against Ghana.
The former Olympic Eagles handler made the assertion while reflecting on their Nigeria Premier Football League 1-0 win over Bendel Insurance at Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin-City on Saturday, their first away win of the 2024/25 season.
He commended the players and officials of the club for recording their first away win of the season, even as he reserved special praise for the technical crew headed by former Nigeria national Under-23 head coach, Imama Amapakabo, for the team’s transformation.
He told the club media, “I must commend the players for their gusty showing in Benin-City and the Imma Amakapabo-led technical crew for turning the team’s fortunes around after a poor start to the season.
“Our players have been outstanding of late, and I am surprised that innocent Godwin has been invited to the Super Eagles. I am confident that more players will get called up to the national team before the season ends.”
The win over Insurance has catapulted the Umu Chineke to the fifth position in the NPFL standings.
The club will next host Heartland in an Oriental derby this weekend in Umuahia.
