An off-duty police officer was killed in the Western Cape on the eve of the National Police Day.

The officer of the Cape Town Central SAPS was shot on Friday evening alongside his friend in Site C, Khayelitsha. Both died in hospital later that night.

The Western Cape Police Oversight and Community Safety MEC, Reagen Allen, said he was saddened to hear of the murder, especially as the country was observing National Police Day.
