The mother of a 5-year-old girl who was allegedly raped after she was sent home early from a school in Bizana, Eastern Cape, has accused the school of negligence.

The mother, who cannot be named to protect the identity of the minor, said her child fell ill at school on 29 February and had to be helped out of her soiled clothes by teachers at Mdeni Junior Secondary School.

The mother claims that, after cleaning the child, the teachers did not put her into proper clothes but instead wrapped a school jersey around her waist and sent her home half-naked.
