Geoffrey Moncada, the Technical Director of Serie A giants, AC Milan, says he is happy that Super Eagles forward Samuel Chukwueze is staying with the club following a failed deadline day transfer to English Premier League side, Fulham, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
After his proposed move to Fulham fell through on transfer deadline day, three Super Lig giants have shown interest in the Nigeria international days before the Turkey transfer window slams shut.
Turkish outlet Fotospor claims Fenerbahce, Besiktas and Galatasaray are considering a late move for the forward.
Moncada in an interview with Sport Mediaset expressed his delight with Milan’s activities during the January transfer window that saw Santiago Gimenez, Joao Felix, Warren Bondo and Riccardo Sottil join the club. Alvaro Moratta left the club to team up with Victor Osimhen in Galatasaray while Chukwueze remained with the club.
Asked if Chukwueze, who was in negotiations for a deadline day move to Fulham before it fell apart, could still make a move to the Turkish league, whose transfer window is open for a few more days, Moncada said, “No, he is staying with us and represents another option on the right. We’re happy he gets to stay.”
Chukwueze joined Milan from Spanish club Villarreal during the 2023 summer transfer window for a deal worth €20m plus some substantial bonuses, which made him the most expensive signing of a window that saw 10 players join the San Siro outfit.
Since joining the Rossoneri, the Nigerian has struggled to replicate the form that made him a household name at the Yellow Submarines during his five-year spell at the Estadio de la Cerámica.
The 25-year-old recently returned to action having been ruled out with hamstring injury for several weeks. Chukwueze came off the bench to score the 95th-minute winner in Milan’s 3-2 win over Parma on matchday 22.
He will hope to prove his doubters wrong and cement his place in manager Sergio Conceicao’s team.
