Middleweight boxer Chris Eubank Jr. has tipped Anthony Joshua to beat Tyson Fury if the two British heavyweights ever share a ring.
Eubank Jr. believes Joshua has the skills and intelligence to exploit the weaknesses exposed in Fury’s recent loss to Oleksandr Usyk.
Speaking ahead of Joshua’s IBF title clash with Daniel Dubois at Wembley Stadium on September 21, Eubank Jr. expressed confidence in Joshua’s abilities.
“If Joshua goes into a fight with the right mindset, then he has the skills to beat anybody in the world, and I would always back my guy against Fury,” he said.
The middleweight contender pointed to Fury’s recent defeat as evidence of his vulnerability.
“Fury lost to Usyk and showed he is not unbeatable or invincible. Joshua is smart enough to look at what Usyk did, see the holes in Fury’s game, and do the same thing when they share a ring—which I am sure they will,” Eubank Jr. added.
He, however, cautioned against looking too far ahead, emphasising the importance of Joshua’s upcoming bout with Dubois, saying, “The Fury talk is for the future. For now, the focus is on Dubois and Joshua, and they should enjoy reaching the pinnacle of boxing this weekend.”
The 33-year-old Joshua enters the fight with Dubois in good form, having secured four consecutive victories since his back-to-back losses to Usyk. His most recent outing saw him stop former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou.
Eubank Jr. praised Joshua’s activity level, noting its importance in a boxer’s development.”Joshua has been busy with three fights last year, and Dubois will be his second of 2024. Activity is so important to becoming a better fighter,” he said.
The fight against Dubois is another significant test for Joshua as he seeks to maintain his momentum and potentially set up a future clash with Fury.
Dubois, coming off impressive stoppage wins over Jarrell Miller and Filip Hrgovic, presents a formidable challenge.
The boxing community remains divided on the outcome of the Joshua-Dubois fight. While some former world champions like Liam Smith and Josh Warrington are backing Joshua, others, including Chinese heavyweight Zhilei Zhang, believe Dubois has the potential to cause an upset.
