A Nigerian man has lamented after the mother of a young boy, whose WAEC and JAMB fees he paid, told the boy not to inform him about his admission to study Civil Engineering at the University of Ilorin.
This was revealed in a statement he shared on his page via the popular social media platform, X (formerly Twitter).
The man explained that he recently paid the boy’s WAEC and JAMB fees, but when the boy was admitted to study Civil Engineering at Unilorin, the boy’s mother instructed him not to tell the man.
However, the boy found a way to inform him, and the man even sent money to help the boy with food and settling in.
When the boy’s mother found out, she allegedly punished him.
The man shared his thoughts, saying: “The boy I paid for his WAEC and JAMB fees got admission to study Civil Engineering at Unilorin. His mum told him not to tell me, but the boy insisted and told me.”
He continued: “The mum found out because I sent the boy money for foodstuff and settling in. She beat him. This is a boy who didn’t want to go to school three years ago. He used to live in a betting shop, playing virtual games and begging for handouts. I put him where he could learn barbing, and now he’s in school. Yesterday, I found out that his mother beat him for telling me. It hurts.”
He went on to express his frustration: “All the uncles who helped with his university fees don’t even know about his journey. What am I supposed to do? Turn something joyful into nonsense. Still, I’m happy for the boy.”
As the post gained attention online, concerned individuals flooded the comments section to share their thoughts.

@im_tolumichael: “Unfortunately, this is the mindset of most people. They believe every help you render without requesting for anything in return, is questionable and suspicious. You’re trying to change their story for better, meanwhile they’re seeing you as the villain in their story.”
