A 30-year-old washing bay attendant at Booboobo in the Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipality, has been sentenced to 20 years imprisonment in hard labour for defiling a 14-year-old student.

The convict, Richard Amissah, popularly known as IGP, pleaded guilty with explanation when he appeared before the Tarkwa Circuit Court, presided over by Mrs Hathia Ama Manu.

Prosecuting, Police Sergeant (Sgt) Dominic Appiah Kusi said that the complainant, is a hairdresser and mother of the daughter, all residing at Booboobo, while the convict lives in Akoon.

Sgt Kusi revealed that on Saturday September 7, 2024, at about 6pm, the complainant asked the victim deliver some items to her sister at a Senior High School in Tarkwa.

The prosecution said on her way back home, Amissah dragged the victim into a nearby bush and had sexual intercourse with her.

Sgt Kusi said Amissah again pulled the victim into the bush at Akoon and had sex with her.

The prosecution said when the student went home, she narrated her ordeal to the mother, who lodged a complaint at the Tarkwa Regional Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU).

Sgt Kusi indicated that a police medical report form that was issued to the complainant to take the victim to the hospital for treatment and endorsement, was returned duly endorsed by a medical officer.

The prosecution said when Amissah was arrested, he admitted the offence and pleaded for forgiveness. —GNA
