The International Court of Justice (ICJ) must step in – immediately, and without another hearing – to prevent widespread starvation in Gaza, South Africa said in a new filing on Wednesday.

This might be the ICJ’s last chance “to save the Palestinian people in Gaza already dying of starvation, and now ‘one step’ from famine”, South Africa said in its application.

Israel was in contempt of the ICJ’s previous order, it added, and the urgency of the matter was such the court should step in immediately, and without another hearing.
