The Vice Chancellor of the University of Medical Sciences, Ondo Town, Ondo State, Prof Adesegun Fatusi, has warned the new students of the institution against involving in acts that are against the rules and regulations of the varsity.

The VC enjoined them to pursue their academic dreams vigorously maintain peace and shun anti-social behaviours.

Fatusi gave the warning at the matriculation of students for the 2024/2025 academic session. A total of 587 new students took the matriculation oath of the institution.

He said, “I want to congratulate you for successfully scaling the rigorous but fair hurdles of admission into this institution, I appreciate you for the confidence reposed in our institution

“I also enjoin you to pursue your academic dreams vigorously and ensure you maintain peace and shun anti-social behaviours on the campus.”

According to him, the students must have the gift of competence, the gift of character, the gift of confidence, the gift of connection, the gift of contribution, the gift of creativity, and the gift of cultivating godliness in the course of their studies in the university.

“ Today’s number is about 25 per cent more than what we admitted last year, we have continued to make steady progress in the university. The new increase will take place in the next admission. One of the exalted news is that four new courses were introduced as new students were admitted, these include audiology, this course is important because no medical school in the country today is training people in audiology.

“As people grow older, they are going to be having problems with hearing as well as young people who use all kinds of earpieces. Some young children are born with a deformity that needs audiology in our society. We are glad that we have started that and the first set of audiology which is the first set of students of audiology in this country.

“Another one is bio-sciences and bio-technologists are the people you can be looking forward to in helping Nigeria to develop things like vaccines in the future. Also, medical physics they are the one to develop the equipment we use. Medicinal chemistry is the people to develop drugs and to help transform some of the modern herbs into modern drugs.”

He noted that the university was not about reading and passing the exam only, but about developing themselves to be fit for employment in the future.
