Homegrown Automaker Mahindra and Mahindra recently launched two new electric SUVs in the Indian market – the Mahindra BE 6e and XEV 9e. Both EVs have garnered the attention of many consumers with their brilliant pricing, unique futuristic design, features, technology, and performance. Mahindra XEV 9e vs Tata Curvv EV: Variants and pricing
Comparing the pricing and variants first, Mahindra has only announced the price for the base trim of the XEV 9e, called Pack One, which does not include the charger, is available for separate purchase. The EV is priced from Rs 21.9 lakh (ex-showroom, introductory). This variant comes with a smaller 59kWh battery pack. The prices and details of other variants will be announced at the upcoming Bharat Mobility Expo. The deliveries are said to begin from February 2025.
The Tata Curvv EV SUV is offered in five main variants and two battery pack options – 45 kWh and 55 kWh. The 45 kWh version is available with Creative priced at 17.49 lakh, Accomplished Rs 18.49 lakh and Accomplished plus S at Rs 19.29 lakh. The 55 kWh version is available with Accomplished priced at Rs 19.25 lakh, Accomplished Plus S at 20 lakh, Empowered Plus at 21.25 lakh and Empowered Plus S priced at Rs 22 lakh (all prices are ex-showroom).
Mahindra XEV 9e vs Tata Curvv EV: Dimensions
Before comparing the dimensions, let’s talk about the design of Mahindra XEV 9e. The Coupe EV SUV looks very close to the concept model that was previewed previously. It features clean, sharp lines with pronounced wheel arches and thick gloss black cladding all around. The XEV 9e features a blanked-out grille with an LED light bar across the front, linking the headlight clusters. The exterior uses piano black accents to enhance its premium look. It also includes flush door handles, a muscular shoulder line, and aero-optimised 19-inch alloy wheels for improved range, with 20-inch wheels available as an option. At the rear, slim, connected LED tail-lights sit below the boot spoiler. The illuminated ‘infinity Mahindra’ logo will be featured on future XUV models.
The XEV 9e measures 4,790 in length, 1,905mm in width, and 1,690mm in height, wheelbase of 2,775mm and has a ground clearance of 207 mm. The vehicle offers massive 665 litres litres of boot space and an additional 150 litres of frunk space. The Curvv EV measures 4310 mm in length, 1810 mm in width, 1637 mm in height, 2560 mm of wheelbase, 190 mm of ground clearance and gets boot space of 500 litres. The XEV 9e is longer, wider, has more height and ground clearance and also has more wheelbase. Tata Motors offers 17-inch wheels on lower variants of the Curvv EV and 18-inch wheels on higher variants.

First, let’s talk about the interior design of the XEV 9e, the interior design mirrors the exterior’s boldness, retaining elements from the concept. A standout feature is the unique three-screen setup with each screen measuring 12.3 inches. The XEV 9e features a two-spoke, flat-bottom steering wheel with an illuminated logo. It also appears to share some switchgear with the BE model. The XEV 9e also gets Mahindra’s MAIA (Mahindra’s Artificial Intelligence Architecture), offering 220k DMIPS, 51 TOPS, over 80 billion transistors, and 130+ million lines of code. The system is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8295 chipset, with 24GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. Connectivity features include Wi-Fi 6.0, Bluetooth 5.2, and 5G capability.
Talking about features, when compared to Curvv EV. The XEV 9e offers more and many segment-first features. All three screens get 1920×720 resolution with AdrenoX software. Other features include a wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, connected car technology, push-button start, auto headlights and wipers, dual-zone climate control with rear AC vents, a panoramic sunroof, a 1,400W 16-speaker Harman Kardon system with Dolby Atmos, and a heads-up display (HUD). Safety features include 7 airbags, a Level 2 ADAS suite, a 360-degree camera, and blind spot monitoring. The car also offers park assist, which can park the vehicle automatically.
In terms of features, the Curvv EV gets a 12.3-inch floating infotainment touchscreen, a 320W 9-speaker JBL sound system, a panoramic sunroof, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, four-spoke steering with illuminated Tata logo and paddle shifters to adjust re-gen, wireless charging pad, ventilated and six-way adjustable front seats, a two-step rear seat recline function, cooled glove box, 45W Type-C charging ports, connected car tech, Arcade. Ev app suite, powered tailgate with gesture control, push-button start and much more. Safety features include six airbags, ESP, all-wheel disc brakes, and a range of other features. Additionally, it includes acoustic alerts to ensure pedestrian safety and Level 2 ADAS with 20 features.
Mahindra XEV 9e vs Tata Curvv EV: Battery, motor and range
The Mahindra XEV 9e will be available with two battery options: a 59kWh and a 79kWh unit, both using Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) chemistry. It is built on Mahindra’s scalable INGLO platform, which features a ‘compact three-in-one powertrain’ consisting of a motor, inverter, and transmission. Mahindra claims the 79kWh battery can be charged from 20 to 80 percent in 20 minutes using a 175kW DC fast charger, while the 59kWh battery requires 20 minutes with a 140kW DC fast charger.The XEV 9e with the 79kWh battery is claimed to offer a range of 656km on the MIDC cycle, while on the European WLTP cycle, Mahindra reports a range of 533km.

The XEV 9e features an 11kW on-board charger, with Mahindra offering additional 7.2kW and 11kW charger options. The 7.2kW charger takes 8.7 hours to fully charge the 59kWh battery, while the 11kW charger completes the process in 6 hours. For the 79kWh battery, the 7.2kW charger takes 11.7 hours, and the 11kW charger requires 8 hours. The XEV 9e with the 79kWh battery is powered by a 286hp, 380Nm motor that drives the rear wheels, and has c;aimed a 0-100kph time of 6.8 seconds. The smaller 59kWh battery is paired with a 231hp motor.
The Curvv EV is available in two battery pack options – a 45 kWh with a 502 km range and 55 kWh with 585 km (both claimed). In real-world conditions, these provide an estimated range of up to 350 km and 425 km, respectively. The EV also features a 1.2C charging rate, allowing it to achieve a range of 150 km in just 15 minutes of charging. Both battery packs come paired with a single PMSM electric motor which puts out 167 hp of power with the ability to sprint from 0-100 kph in 8.6 seconds and a top speed of 160 kph. (claimed).
