Maruti Suzuki India first revealed the new Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5-door SUV globally at the 2023 Auto Expo. The 5-door SUV attracted a lot of interest from global markets where it was only available in 3-door format. The company started to export the India-made 5-door SUV to Latin America, the Middle East, Australia and Africa regions a few months after India’s launch and is now begin exported to over 100 countries. Now, the company has started exporting the Jimny 5-door to Japan.
Maruti Suzuki has now announced that it has started exporting the Jimny 5 door to Japan. The SUV will be manufactured at the company’s manufacturing facility in Gurugram, Haryana and is the second India-made model to be exported to Japan after Fronx. In Japan, the 5-door Jimny will go on sale as the ‘Jimny Nomade’. The bookings have already commenced and as per rumours the first batch of exported 5-door Jimny units has already arrived in Japan, the Land of the Rising Sun.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director & CEO, Maruti Suzuki India Limited said, “The introduction of ‘Made in India’ Jimny 5-door in Japan is a testament to the global level of excellence in our manufacturing capability. It is our second model to be exported to Japan in this fiscal year (FY 2024-25) after Fronx in August 2024. Jimny is the second most exported Maruti Suzuki car in FY 2024-25^. After its resounding success in markets like Mexico, Australia, and South Africa, we are confident that it will delight customers in Japan. The export of Jimny reaffirms our commitment towards ‘Make-in-India for the world’.”
Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5-door is an extended version of the standard 3-door version, the 5-door Jimny has 340 mm more wheelbase than the 3-door variant. In terms of dimensions, the SUV measures 3,985mm in length, 1,645mm in width and 1,720mm in height. It has a ground clearance of 210mm, an approach angle of 36 degrees and a departure angle of 50 degrees.
In terms of features, the Jimny 5-door gets a 9-inch Suzuki smart play touchscreen infotainment system with Arkamys sound system, leather-wrapped steering wheel, automatic climate control, push start/stop, LED auto headlamps with washer, fog lamps, body-coloured ORMVs, 15-inch alloy wheels and Dark green glass. Safety features include 6 airbags, an anti-lock braking system (ABS), and electronic brakeforce distribution (EBD).
Talking about the powertrain, the Jimny 5-door is powered by the 1.5-litre K15B NA Petrol engine which comes paired either with a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic. This engine puts out 105 bhp of power and 134 Nm of torque. It also gets Maruti’s mild-hybrid tech. The SUV also features Suzuki’s AllGrip Pro 4WD system with a manual transfer case and low-range gearbox with ‘2WD-high’, ‘4WD-high’ and ‘4WD-low’.
