A muddy trench is all that remains of the successful repair job on a burst pipe, which left a significant part of Johannesburg without water on Wednesday.   

Many areas in the city were still without water on Thursday due to the 750mm steel pipe that burst on Empire Road in Parktown.  

The repair required bulk water supplier Rand Water to stem the flow, followed by a team from Johannesburg Water draining and welding the pipe.
