Spanish La Liga club Las Palmas are the latest to be linked with Nigeria international Sadiq Umar, with the Canary Island side eyeing a January move for the striker, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

Since Umar requested to leave Real Sociedad due to another turbulent season with the Basque club, several clubs have indicated interest in the Nigerian. According to a Spanish outlet, El Nuevo, the striker is now on the radar of Las Palmas.“@larazon_es reports that UD Las Palmas is interested in Umar Sadiq, the Real Sociedad striker who is not getting many minutes at the start,” the outlet wrote on X.It’s been a difficult spell for the Super Eagles striker since joining the Basque outfit from Almeria during the 2022 summer for €20m.

Sadiq started the 2022/23 season in fine form, scoring three goals in five matches, including his debut goal for the Txuri-Urdinak against Atletico Madrid, before suffering an injury that sidelined him for 11 months.

Since his return from the ACL injury, Umar has been a shadow of himself.

After making his return in the 2023/24 season against Girona, Umar has not been able to replicate the form that prompted Sociedad to make him their most expensive signing.

Despite a glimmer of brilliance, the Nigerian has not been able to make his way into Imanol Alguacil’s starting XI this season, and the 27-year-old has neither scored nor provided an assist.

An injury to Sandro Ramirez means the club are in the market for a new striker, and given Umar’s lack of playing time at Sociedad, a move to Las Palmas seems reasonable, but their position in the league (bottom) could hinder the striker from joining in the summer.
