Rising Nigerian boxer, Oluwatosin Kejawa, has entered the World Boxing Council rankings for professional light-heavyweights and is already targeting a Top 10 spot, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
The WBC posted all the newest Top 40 entries and those who rose in the rankings on Thursday and the 22-year-old was listed at 34 among light-heavyweights.
Kejawa had a brilliant 2023, winning three fights, capping it off with the WBC Africa title win on November 26 against Tanzanian Abdul Ubaya. The fight against Ubaya also saw him win the 2023 Neilson Boxing Fight of The Year award.
Both fighters landed crucial blows over 10 rounds, with Kejawa suffering a head injury before he snatched a split decision win to claim the WBC Africa light-heavyweight title.
The pivotal win marked Kejawa’s 10th professional bout, extending his immaculate record to 10 victories, with five knockouts to his credit.
Speaking to our correspondent about his ranking of number 34, Kejawa said that this has inspired him to work more and chase a spot in the Top 10 by next year.
“I was unranked before now, so, this makes me feel very happy. It has inspired me to work more as I will want to get myself into the Top 10 by 2025, that is my wish,” he said.
“I know it is not going to be easy but I am ready to put in the work I need to get there.”
