Anthony Joshua still has at least five fights before hanging his gloves, according to his promoter Eddie Hearn.
The former heavyweight champion, who already has 31 professional fights under his belt, is gearing up for a series of high-profile bouts as he looks to reclaim his place at the top of the boxing world.
Hearn, who had previously hinted that Joshua might be nearing the end of his career, now believes the Briton has found a new rhythm under coach Ben Davison. This newfound form, Hearn claims, could eventually lead to the much-anticipated showdown with fellow Brit Tyson Fury.
“If you look back after the Oleksandr Usyk fights, you might have said, ‘How many more fights? Three? Five?’ Well, we’ve had four since then, and now we’re saying five still,” Hearn told the media, suggesting that Joshua’s career is far from over.
Joshua’s career took a hit after suffering consecutive losses to Usyk in 2021 and 2022, losing his WBA, IBF, WBO, and IBO heavyweight titles.
However, since then, he has embarked on a remarkable comeback, winning four consecutive fights against Jermaine Franklin, Robert Helenius, Otto Wallin, and Francis Ngannou. His recent victories have solidified his position as a force to be reckoned with in the heavyweight division.
Hearn is keen to keep Joshua active in the coming years, mapping out a string of major fights.
The next one, held later this month, will see Joshua take on Daniel Dubois for the IBF world heavyweight title at Wembley Stadium, which is expected to be a pivotal moment in Joshua’s quest to become a three-time world heavyweight champion.
In the lead-up to the bout, tension between Joshua and Dubois has been palpable. During a recent face-off, Joshua demanded respect from Dubois, who responded dismissively, suggesting that if Joshua wanted respect, he should have chosen a career as a lawyer or doctor.
Dubois, the reigning IBF heavyweight champion, made it clear that boxing is about fighting, not respect, and expressed his eagerness to face Joshua in the ring.
