Nigeria National League side, Warri Wolves are through to the semi-finals of this year’s Federation Cup after recording a stunning 2-1 win over Nigeria Professional Football League side, Lobi Stars in their quarter-final on Sunday, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

The second-tier side grabbed a second-half winner after Joseph Atule had cancelled out Jabbar Malik’s first-half opener.

The Seasiders have reached the semifinal of the Federation Cup for the first time since 2013 and the progress continues their push for a bizarre continental spot. They will now face the unbeaten Bendel Insurance, who beat Sunshine Stars in Awka for a place in this year’s final.

A second-half penalty by Osarenkhoe Imade was all that Bendel Insurance needed to edge Sunshine Stars 1-0 in their quarter-final game on Sunday.

The striker stepped up in the 56th minute of the game to hand Insurance the win from the spot after a Sunshine Stars defender handled the ball in the build-up to Deputy Echeta’s initial goal from a free kick. The centre referee chalked off the goal, awarded a penalty and Imade made no mistake to score his ninth goal of the campaign in all competitions.

Unbeaten in the Nigeria Professional Football League this season, Bendel Insurance have now extended their run to 22 games without defeat in all competitions.

In the other semi-final match, Plateau United will take on Enugu Rangers for a place in the final. Thanks to a goal on the stroke of halftime by Adam Yakubu, Plateau United edged Kwara United 1-0 just as Chidiebere Nwobodo’s 80th-minute goal proved enough for Enugu Rangers as they beat Doma United 1-0.
