Challenges in rolling out billions of rand worth of bulk infrastructure, under-resourced municipalities, and a lack of coordination within the three spheres of government are at the heart of South Africa’s crippling water crisis.

This is what Water and Sanitation Minister Senzo Mchunu told Public Protector Kholeka Gcaleka when they met earlier this year.

Gcaleka revealed this to News24 on the sidelines of a National Conference on the State of Human Rights – marking the 30th anniversary of constitutional democracy and human rights in South Africa – in Boksburg on Monday.
