How Wild the Dance We Style? – Chukwunedum Paul Oranye

The dance steps threaten the music.
The key of the song is lost in
Scrambled notes;
Papers, crumpled sheets, torn aside,
Mouths agape, empty and dry
Emitting hisses and salt less sounds.

How odd the dance!
How incomplete the beats!
How darkly our fingers strum the clef !
How ghostly the unending staccato we sing!
How aghast the piano sounds, how schizophrenic!

How wild the dance we style!
Like thorns in a farm, our music choke,
And mindless vultures ooze down Spittle
To flame our cold fire wood to indifference and recklessness

Drum beats cannot correct the odious meter.
Not even a borrowed organist can pull out rhythm
Clear and exquisite, off our jumble of unsavory tunes.

Tomorrow waits forever unsatisfied;
Our horizon desperately claws the atmosphere,
Panting and gasping for its life for the last time,
In search of a muse, pleading for our
Songs, our papers
Petaled with clefs, with tunes
From the soul’s essence.
