Accra Hearts of Oak and Dormaa Aduana FC last Friday played out an entertaining goalless draw encounter in their match day five game at the University of Ghana Stadium, Legon.
The result left fans of the Oak Tree dejected, and right after referee Abdul Latif Adaari brought proceedings to an end, players of Hearts collapsed on the pitch in disappointment while their opponents jubilated.
The outcome was anticlimax to an evening the Phobians enjoyed a numerical advantage after 58 minutes when Aduana defender, Rich Sackey, was sent off for a second yellow card offence.
With a single victory in their last four league meetings, a draw and two home defeats, fans of Hearts were very expectant to break the duck and claim victory.
And, with Aduana Stars coming into the game on the back of two defeats and two draws, it looked the most appropriate moment to strike but Hearts failed.
After a barren first half with few chances coming the way of the two sides, Aduana Stars came back in the second half employing the same aggressive and physical approach in the first half, which made life difficult for the Phobians.
The visitors did not allow the host to have a chance on the ball as they crowded whoever came into contact with the ball.
After Sackey’s red card, Hearts restrategised with their coach, Aboubakar Ouattara, issuing out instruction to his boys over what to do to break the rear.
That did not, however, materialise as Aduana Stars kept their shape and occasionally employed delay tactics to slow the game.
Indeed, Aduana could have opened the scoring with about 10 minutes remaining on the clock when Hearts defender, Ransford Mensah, gave away the ball in the box to Gideon Boateng, who’s shot on goal was saved by goalkeeper Benjamin Asare.
Hearts substitute, Kwabena Boateng, had the best chance to seal victory for his side in the final moment, but his strike in the six-yard box came off the upright with the resultant kick from Salim Adams flying over the bar to cap an evening of disappointment.
