Gallagher gives one condition to remain at Chelsea despite rejecting two-year deal

Conor Gallagher is reportedly willing to sign a new deal with Chelsea if his salary will be in the same range with the club’s other midfielders.

Despite Chelsea accepting a £33 million offer from Atletico Madrid, Gallagher was seen at Cobham training ground on Friday, according to talkSPORT.

The England international recently turned down a two-year contract offered by the Blues, believing it does not reflect his importance after starting 37 Premier League games last season.

Chelsea granted Moises Caicedo an eight-year deal and Romeo Lavia a seven-year contract.

However, the club does not view Gallagher as a future regular starter under new manager Enzo Maresca, who prefers a possession-based style.

Gallagher, now in the final year of his contract, has been excluded from first-team training due to his reluctance to sign the proposed contract.

Chelsea want to avoid losing him on a free transfer in 2025 if a new agreement isn’t reached.

This is the third contract offer he has declined, following refusals in 2022 and June 2024.

Chelsea’s acceptance of Atletico’s bid puts the ball in Gallagher’s court. He has yet to discuss personal terms with Diego Simeone’s side and will only move if the terms are favourable.

Despite the club’s stance, Gallagher does not want to leave Chelsea, where he grew from the ranks, starting as an academy player.

Gallagher, who made his Chelsea debut in August 2022 after loans at Charlton, Swansea, West Brom, and Crystal Palace, has contributed ten goals and ten assists in 95 appearances.

His consistent performance saw him play in 50 matches last season, more than any other Chelsea player.
