After missing three deadlines, the new Johannesburg Forensic Pathology Service (FPS) laboratory has still not opened its doors.

The R588 million state-of-the-art facility was meant to open at the Helen Joseph Hospital grounds in November 2019. This date was moved to May 2022 and then January 2023 – and there’s still no sign of it opening.

The facility will be the biggest on the continent when it is completed.
