  • Five people have been shot dead in Gugulethu, Cape Town.
  • The suspects fled the scene in a car.
  • On Monday, there was another mass shooting in the same area.

Four men and a woman were shot dead in Gugulethu, Cape Town on Saturday evening.

The shooting in NY5 unfolded close to where another mass shooting, with similar circumstances, took place in A Fenqe Street on Monday.

In Saturday’s shooting, at around 23:00, a group of suspects were dropped a few metres away from two vehicles parked on the side of the road, said Western Cape police.

The suspects then approached the two vehicles and fired numerous shots at the occupants.

After the shooting, the suspects fled in the same vehicle that had earlier dropped them off.

According to police spokesperson, Colonel André Traut, the identities of the victims are yet to be released.

“Provincial serious violent crimes detectives are working around the clock in pursuit of a number of leads [and] no arrests have been effected yet,” Traut added.

On Monday, officers were called to A Fenqe Street, where they found two vehicles with five dead men inside.

Police said it is believed a vehicle with armed men had stopped and the men had fired shots at the five occupants.

Among those victims was lawyer Mbeko Venfolo, and a prison warden.
