Ahead of the highly anticipated novelty game between The PUNCHERS and Media Amalgamated, ex-internationals Friday Ekpo and Victor Agali have both called on Nigerians to troop out in large numbers to watch the explosive game between the two sides at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, Lagos, on Saturday February 24.
While Ekpo, Africa Cup of Nations 1992 bronze medallist, has been given the tough task of handling PUNCHERS, Agali is the man in charge of Media Amalgamated.
Speaking ahead of the mouth-watering encounter, Ekpo vowed to woo the crowds with beautiful football.
“Our last training session will be on Friday (today) at the Legacy Pitch of the National Stadium so that the players can have a feel of the Astroturf before the game,” he said.
“As I have always said, we will have fun and enjoy ourselves even though we want to win. On Saturday my men will prove that they can also play football very well just the way they write.
“I want football lovers to come out and enjoy themselves because they will see beautiful football.”
Speaking with The PUNCH, Agali responded that his side would not succumb to the pressure from PUNCHERS but called on the country’s football faithful to come to the Mobolaji Johnson Arena and enjoy themselves.
“It is a novelty game, and we are going to have fun, but from what I have been seeing from PUNCHERS, I can see a lot is at stake, but we are not ready to succumb because we want to win too,” he said.
“There is no doubt that it is going to be fun because there is going to be a lot of falling down and misfiring. People are going to laugh a lot and whoever is not there is going to miss out and that is why I want to urge people to come out in large numbers and enjoy themselves.
“We know a lot is going on in the country, people need to make themselves happy, and this is just one of the ways to do that.”
