After missing in action for about three months, Super Eagles winger Chidera Ejuke returned to action for Sevilla on Saturday, featuring for eight minutes in their spirited 2-1 win over Girona at the Estadi Montilivi, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
The 27-year-old was welcomed back to full training by his teammates last week and he started from the bench in the La Liga match-day 20 encounter.
He has been out of action since Sevilla’s 5-1 defeat to Barcelona on October 21, 2024, and came on as an 80th-minute replacement for Isaac Romero, who missed a penalty in the game’s opening stages.
Perhaps EJuke’s presence was a lucky charm for García Pimienta’s side, Sevilla ended an awful run of six straight defeats against Girona and also ended a three-game losing streak on the road in La Liga.
It was a fast start as the visitors won a penalty inside just three minutes but Romero’s spot-kick was tipped past the post by Paulo Gazzaniga before the hosts took the lead courtesy of Arnau Martínez’s powerful header.
Saúl Ñíguez lashed home his first goal for Sevilla to restore parity after the break and Dodi Lukébakio stole the victory for the visitors in stoppage time.
Ejuke joined Sevilla on a three-year deal from CSKA Moscow and became an instant hit in the La Liga.
Before his injury, Ejuke had been one of Sevilla’s standout performers, dazzling with his pace, technique, and ability to create chances on the left flank.
The Super Eagles winger was named Sevilla’s Player of The Month for September and was ranked as Europe’s top dribbler ahead of stars like Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal, Real Madrid’s Vinicius, and Kylian Mbappé in October.
