Nigeria’s representatives in the 2024 CAF Women’s Champions League, Edo Queens FC of Benin-City, departed the country for Casablanca, Morocco, at 5:10 am this morning ahead of the competition scheduled to start on November 6 and run through November 23, 2024.

The Nigerian champions arrived in Lagos on Wednesday and travelled the following day with a promise to lift the trophy.

They are lodged in Group alongside Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa, Egypt’s FC Masar, and CBE of Ethiopia and open their campaign against the Ethiopians on November 10 at Larbi Zaouli Stadium, Casablanca.

Speaking in a press conference before their departure for Lagos on Wednesday, the team’s captain, Efemweokiekie Osakpolor, expressed their determination to go all the way, saying, “By the grace of God, we are going to make not just the state proud, but also make you proud as well.”

Responding, Chairman, Edo State Sports Commission, Yusuf Alli, charged the players to bring home the trophy, adding that everything was in place to motivate them, urging them to replicate their triumph in the WAFU Zone B championship.

He said, “Everything is set in place for us to go to Morocco and conquer, just like we did in Ivory Coast. I don’t think feeding will be an issue.

“We will come here with a cup. I’m dead sure that the cup is coming to Nigeria.”

Edo Queens were crowned champions of the WAFU B CAF Women’s Champions League qualifiers after a commanding 3-0 victory over Benin’s Ainonvi FC in the final in August, securing their place in the CAF Women’s Champions League, succeeding Ghana’s Ampem Darkoa Ladies as WAFU B champions.
