Oyo State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Wasilat Adegoke, has charged the athletes to go for gold at the National Youth Games in Asaba, the Delta State capital.

Adegoke said this while boosting the morale of the state’s contingent on Tuesday during her visit to the Lekan Salami Sports Complex, where she enjoined the team to build on the momentum from the Zonal Elimination Games.

She said, “I want to congratulate you on your achievements so far. I want you to be rest assured that your safety and welfare before, during, and after the games is of great priority to us. That is why the governor approved all of the funds requested. Therefore, go for gold for the Pacesetter state.”

She also implored the team to be good ambassadors of the state and shun anti-sporting activities.

The General Manager of Oyo State Sports Council, Tunde Ajibike, was confident about the athletes coming out tops in their various sports and events, saying training had commenced since January.

The official opening of the 8th edition of the National Youth Games will take place on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba, Delta State.
