Chaotic, sweaty, stressful and exhausting: An honest review of my time aboard the MSC Splendida

Thinus Ferreira found that the arrival of the MSC Splendida to local shores – the first in South African waters to bring a ship-in-a-ship concept to customers, was far from what it’s cracked up to be and left a lot to be desired.

In hindsight, the toilet in the balcony cabin was the first indication that something big was wrong. It looked like it had hair in it, which, on closer inspection, turned out to be many scratches. It was clearly dated and in need of maintenance or replacement. For a paid experience on an ocean cruise, this would be unacceptable.

Last week, along with so-called “trade” (travel agents, tour operators and other stakeholders, including some VIPs), MSC South Africa invited some media to spend the afternoon and a night aboard the Splendida while docked.
